A local feast

For Papa and Nana's last night with us, we went to a local restaurant that Papa had been to many times during other visits to Amman- he actually knows the city better than we do at this point!  This is a very popular place with tourists because of the ambiance and the food was really good too.  To the left is the entry hall.  You walk all the way through and exit out to the left to the dining area which is at low tables under tents, outdoors.  To the left toward the front of this picture is a lady making bread that is served at the restaurant- hot and fresh- so yummy!

We walked through the long hallway and turned to the left and it opened up out into this courtyard with fountains, flowers, beautiful archways..  It's still quite hot here during the days (80s-90s) but it's so cool and beautiful at night.  It was the perfect atmosphere

Low tables, under tents with cushioned benches for seating...

Anabelle was happy as can be in her seat watching the action around her...

Deciding what to order

And our deliberation paid off.... yummy!
Typically we order meza which is a selection of salads, , starter type dishes..
hummuous, baba ghanoush, olives, grilled cheese, and of course french fries with heinz ketchup...

Then comes the "mixed grill"- lamb chops, marinated and grilled pieces of beef and lamb, marinated and grilled chicken and grilled tomatoes, onions.  It's all served with hot, fresh Arabic flatbread, parsley and onion garnish- oh so yummy!

(oh and french fries- french fries come with everything...)
Look at those piles of bread towards the back- and they just keep bringing more and more!

Everyone was happy!

Looks like we ordered just the right amount...

I think Naomi would have licked the hummous out of the bowl if we had let her...

Every time Maya even sees flat bread, she hollars out, "HUMMUS"! Love my little Middle Eastern Barbie baby!
